Managing Health, Safety & Compliance

Health and safety is considered from the outset of every project. We review the scope of works, access, building use and those who may be affected, then put the appropriate controls and documentation in place before works commence.

Pre-Start Planning
Key risks, access requirements, site logistics and working arrangements are reviewed before the project starts.

Project-Specific RAMS
Risk assessments and method statements are prepared around the actual works and site conditions and reviewed where circumstances change.

COSHH Assessments
Products and substances used on site are assessed, with suitable controls identified for handling, storage and use.

Site Inductions & Briefings
Operatives and subcontractors are briefed on site-specific risks, access arrangements and safe-working procedures before commencing work.

Ongoing Monitoring & Review
Site conditions, working practices and documentation are monitored throughout the programme, with issues addressed as the works progress.

Project Controls, Competency & Site Management

Good health and safety management is not simply about producing paperwork. The controls need to be understood, implemented and monitored throughout the project.

Subcontractor Competency
Relevant experience, training, qualifications and supporting documentation are reviewed before specialist contractors are appointed to the works.

Working at Height & Access
Scaffolding, towers, MEWPs and other access arrangements are planned and coordinated around the requirements of the project.

Protection & Segregation
Work areas, access routes and occupied parts of the building are appropriately separated and protected wherever required.

Housekeeping & Site Standards
Working areas are kept organised, waste is regularly cleared and suitable site standards maintained throughout the programme.

Toolbox Talks & Communication
Regular briefings are used where appropriate to reinforce safe-working requirements and communicate changes to the works or site conditions.

Inspection, Records & Handover
Relevant inspections, project documentation and completion information are maintained as part of the project record through to handover.

Site-Specific Documentation

Every project is different. Wedgewood prepares and coordinates the relevant RAMS, COSHH assessments, inductions and site controls around the actual scope, environment and risks associated with the works.

Where specialist activities are involved, we work alongside appropriately experienced subcontractors, consultants and other members of the project team to ensure responsibilities and requirements are clearly understood.
